At the Monday K-2 Morning Meeting we talked about the Pajama Drive reaching 200 pajamas!! Great Job families! We celebrated December birthdays, got to listen to 4th graders and Middle Schoolers perform some holiday music for us which is always a special treat AND we celebrated our November Inquirer Award winner which was Theo in our class! While waiting for the musical performance to begin Theo was even trying to figure out how many strings were represented in the group after Mrs. Pohl posed the question. He is a natural when it comes to inquiry. Mondays actions were a story performed by Peyton and Juliana sharing a How To presentation on her Favorite Holiday cookie. The Exploration Station for this planner has books to research and answer inquiries about and explore and investigate different coins from around the world. We started our week with a provocation into the new planner. We got to work with a partner and look at a photo and write what they See, Think and Wonder about the picture. Then they had to write everything they knew about goods and services before watching an informative video. In Mandarin they worked on naming their favorite season and then presenting it to the class in Mandarin. On Tuesday afternoon Rose and Yamini's mom came in to do a service project with the class. They each got to decorate two cookies (made by Andersen's family) with frosting and sprinkles to give to all the people who keep us safe at school. They also got to decorate a card to go with the cookies. They are drying overnight and we will deliver them this week to those special people. Before we got started Yamini and Rose played us two songs on their violins they performed last weekend. Not only was this activity Caring and Fun but a great way to show Appreciation for others.

On Monday Divya Sridhar, Yamini's mom, came in and made suet with our class. Students got to measure and mix ingredients and then fill a mini bowl to go in the freezer overnight. Students loved being able to make these all by themselves. I hope they found a place outside to hang them. Please send in any photos of birds enjoying these treats (or any other animals!) On Tuesday, students took action by bringing in books that we are reading, quotes that inspired them and plays to express themselves. On Tuesday afternoon students got to shop in the Holiday Shop. They really took their time to buy gifts they felt the special people on their list would really like. After they finished shopping they got to go over and have their gifts wrapped if they wanted to. This was one of my favorite things to do at school when I was growing up and I could tell it was one of theirs too! Here's our Wednesday Action: some quotes and a play. On Wednesday we walked over to CSU Wolstein Center to watch the girls basketball team take on Ohio University Bobcats. I went to OU and also graduated from CSU so I was happy to see both teams play. The students were really into the game! I loved sitting by Brooklyn and hearing her use words like defense and knowing what quarter the game was in all throughout the game. We also got to listen and sing The National Anthem with our choir and dance and cheer on our CIS High Steppers! It was great watching them cheer and enjoy their game treats. It was also awesome for them to give us another free book bag. This event has become a tradition at CIS that I know the students enjoy. A special thank you for the parents that helped me walk them over to make our walk as safe as possible. Thursday action-Mari brought in a Money magazine after inquiring about our new planner and shared some fun money facts with us, Yamini acted out a story for us about pollution and a few more quotes were shared from Juliana and Rose. On Thursday they also got to go do Hour of Code with 6th Graders in Mrs. Taylor's Class during their recess if they wanted to. It was fun to team back up with my partner to do one of our favorite things-CODE! We ended our Thursday with Mitchell's Ice Cream for being the grade level that raised the most money for the Dance-a-Thon! They all said it was yummy and of course wanted seconds! Thank you to all the families that raised the money for the Dance-a-Thon-wish you could've been here to celebrate with them!
This week was balanced pretty well with fun activities and NWEA Reading and Math testing. Every student got on one test or the other and a few finished both this week. We will still be testing next week-the deadline is Friday, December 15th. |
