On Monday we started to reflect on our Central Idea: Attitudes influence relationships. We discussed the attributes, attitudes and keys that have been the focus of our learning and reflected on the actions we have taken based on the activities and knowledge we have gained in this planner. We made a list of relationships and a list of attitudes that we have noticed over the past 6 weeks. These lists will guide the Mind Maps we will be making this week as part of our summative assessment. After Mandarin we got to do a Go Noodle Brain Break chosen by Ava!

A special thank you and warmest appreciation to all the kind words, flowers and cards for the passing of my father in law. He was an amazing father and grandfather and I know he would've loved to walk with my daughter this week at her school like many grandfathers did this week at the Father's Walk. This week we practiced a bus evacuation drill. In Mandarin they practiced saying fruit names in a sentence after finding out which fruits their friends liked to eat. It was so nice to see all the father's, grandfather's and family friends who showed up to walk with our class. During our closing circle this week we are doing an activity where they share their favorite part of the day and it was heartwarming to hear many of them say the Father's Walk, especially since we also went on a field trip the same day. Just another example of how much children like spending time with the special men in their lives. We had a great trip to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. We learned about Ohio animals and their habitats. We got to see the animals in the types of habitats they would live in. Students were sent home with a free ticket for admission for them and 5 others. The front cover of their booklets they brought home also has a free day for the museum in March of next year. They will be doing a research project this year on an Ohio animal and this might be a great family activity to do to give them ideas of which animal they might like to choose. We got to watch the ending of the Ribbon Cutting on a live stream in our classroom when we got back from the museum while they finished their museum booklet. They were so excited that the Mayor was at our school! We ended our week with a Guest Reader- Yamini's mom! She read the story Mousetronaut and The Book With No Pictures. I will put a sign up if you'd like to come in and also be a Guest Reader on Bloomz soon.
Calvin was awarded the Living the Learner Profile Award for Principled at the All Grades K-2 Morning Meeting on Monday. He won the award for always being principled and coming to school ready to learn! September we are focusing on Caring and I will award that student at the end of the month at the All School Morning Meeting. This award will go to the student who is most helpful and thinks about others. A special thank you to Ms. Chambers for taking a photo for me since I could not be there. :-) On Thursday Lin Lao Shi reviewed the fruit she taught them on Monday and Tuesday with a fun activity where they came up to the white board with a frog fly swatter. They also sang a fruit song in mandarin and then she ended with a song that got them up and moving- If Your Happy and You Know It!
On Tuesday Lin Lao Shi taught us how to say "I like..." sentences using picture cards. After she taught us how to say the sentence with the activities they played a game of boys against the girls to review and practice what she taught us. To go along with our Central Idea: Attitudes influence relationships we watched a movie clip from Despicable Me. We discussed attitudes we noticed and how they influenced relationships. We also discussed how the attitudes could have been different in the movie and what would've happened. This week we also got to start CODING!! Coding was introduced to our new students to Campus International and those that have been here a few years but have not had the opportunity to code. We met our coding partners, reviewed what a driver and navigator are and then had time to practice writing lines of code with each other. During Writer's Workshop 2 share passes are handed out for student's who have worked really hard. This room is full of amazing writer's so it's never hard to hand these passes out! Students chosen get to share their piece and then the rest of us get to ask the writer questions or comments. We are currently working on narrative writing. Lin Lao Shi had us recall the "I like sentences" using the same pictures from Tuesday. She had us play a different game where we passed the heart. When they were done they worked on a matching worksheet that they also brought home. We found ourselves with a spare 7 minutes before we went to Music on Friday so several students got to tell a joke- I have to say I laughed at every single one of them! I love their confidence and willingness to just get on a mic:) We got to end our week with Friday Free Choice Time!
